Observer le Jour du Seigneur, nous reposer, prier et jouer toute la journée avec notre famille et nos amis nous libère d'anxiétés et de toutes sortes de troubles, nous permettant de vivre le TEMPS comme un don de Dieu. Pour que nos TALENTS ne deviennent pas une corvée, le Seigneur nous invite à les partager en toute liberté, généreusement, et avec cette disposition dans laquelle nous sommes heureux de le faire. Le revenu, l'argent, la propriété, les investissements, tout ce qui constitue notre TRÉSOR peut devenir grande source d'anxiété pour ceux qui sont riches et ne cessent d'accumuler autant que pour ceux qui ont assez ou sont pauvres, en raison de nos craintes et insécurités. Le remède de Dieu est que nous décidions librement de nous débarraser de la "portion sainte" - les prémices - qui reviennent à Dieu à titre de notre Créateur et du pourvoyeur de tous nos bien et de la vie elle-même. Même l'opportunité de gagner notre pain est don de Dieu. La Bible suggère qu'il est béni de rendre à Dieu pour son oeuvre sur Terre - à son Église et aux autres charités - 10 %. Nous pouvons viser ce but digne, et avec la grâce de Dieu, faire un pas en cette direction. Joy is one characteristic of our gathering on the Lord's Day here at St Luke - so that our joy is not fragile, dependent on variable external circumstances - the Lord invites us to find our joy in putting our confidence in Him and in the Father's love, and in doing his will. 120128 1700 120129 0900 120129 1230 Keeping the Lord's Day by resting, praying, playing the whole day long, with family and friends, is God's remedy to our fears, anxieties, and troubles over TIME, so that we can enjoy time as his gift. Putting our TALENTS at the service of others with freedom, generosity, and gladness, is God's remedy to the anguish we can have, feeling our talents as a burden with people constantly hounding us to help them. Even wealthy, powerful, and influential people can feel they never have enough, and by excessive accumulating and insufficient sharing, can actually deprive others from enjoying the material blessings God the Creator has put on planet Earth for all to benefit, live, and enjoy. Whether wealthy, comfortable, or poor, it is fear and insecurity that cause us to suffer anguish over work, career, money, property, investments, bills, and so on... God's remedy is for us to identify among all the money and material goods we have, our TREASURE, the "holy portion" that is for God and to freely, gratefully, and gladly give it back to Him. God's Word in the Bible suggests that it is blessed to give to God for his work on Earth - to his Church and other charities - 10 %. We can set our sights on this worthy goal, and with the help of God's grace, take humble, grateful steps toward it. |

On espérait qu'une de ces filles pourrait devenir une femme que Dieu choisirait comme mère du Messie. Dieu veut nous habiter et que nous habitions en Dieu. Jésus dit qu'il faut tout simplement vivre dans la volonté du Père, comme Lui a fait. 111122 Jésus veut que nous ne nous fassions pas de souci pour la fin du monde, parce que nous allons tous très certainement nous trouver en présence de Dieu très bientôt, à la fin de notre vie. The drama of the suicide is that a person ends their participation in life under the illusion of escaping their trouble or pain. In fact, they escape nothing because the state of soul in which we die is the state of soul we bring with us into eternity, and after a suicide add on our self the burden of having thrown back in God's face, as it were, the gift of our life as not worth living anymore. God wants to be merciful, but there is little He can do if we insist on throwing back all his gifts into his face, unwilling to live life to the full, the bad along with the good. 111116 1900 Love and friendship move us to remember those who have gone before us, especially in November each year, which is in accord with the objects of the CWL to build sisterly relations among Catholic women and bonds of friendship and service. We trust in the Lord's promises but don't think about it too much until we begin to see our loved ones leave this Earth and go to God and realize that our time will come too. Jesus loves us as He did his Apostles and disciples and wants us to be with Him where He is. With affection, Jesus wants us to be open to his Father and the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we can be with Jesus now and forever by letting the Holy Spirit put in us the same dispositions that were in Jesus during his life on Earth. 111118 Life is a struggle, part of the great drama of God's sacred history with us individually and together as a people, with devastating revelations about ourselves and uplifting revelations about God. The more wretched and poor we are, the clearer it is that it is God who does great things through us. God wants to shine in and through each other because we live in darkness and need the light shining on the face of Jesus in each of us to find our way to the Father. This explains Jesus' zeal for the Temple as a place for people to meet God. If we let anything get between us and God and let even good things become more important than God, without whom we can find no lasting happiness, then God's jealousy for our lasting happiness will allow us to lose all of our attachments so that in the end we can finally notice the one thing we really need, God and his love for us. 33e dimanche du Temps Ordinaire - 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time top of page A life of service and care for others brings a person close to God, even if they don't believe in God or believe but don't feel close to God. Feelings are useful but not always reliable. Fear of the Lord names a variety of ways in which people have experiences of God giving them the conviction that God is real and that He cares for them. Those who live only by the world's standard carry the whole crushing burden of responsibility on their own shoulders, but the believer, the just person knows the score. God allows bad things to happen even to good people, and He looks to them to carry the burden with Him and accept to be his agents for good in the world. The New Roman Missal coming out in English is a gift from God to give us an opportunity to be renewed and refreshed in our appreciation for God and all He does and in our worship and praise. Only a personal relationship of gratitude and love with the Father, Jesus his only begotten Son and our Lord, in the Holy Spirit can fully satisfy us and fill our capacity for happiness to overflowing. Through Malachi the Lord deplores how trivially the people consider their God - finding worship of Him burdensome, offering Him shamefully worthless gifts - and how the priests hide behind titles, seeking honour, influence, personal gain, and advantages. We must all be wary of such ways of avoiding the challenges of life or avoiding the effort and discomfort of growing in love and humble service. See his website. 111029 1700 111030 0900 111030 1230 111030 1045 Dieu notre Père Créateur nous a conçus avec une capacité infinie pour le bonheur, au-delà des plaisirs privés éphémères et furtifs, dans un contexte de relations amoureuses avec autrui. Seulement dans une relation de gratitude et d'amour avec le Père, son Fils unique Jésus notre Seigneur, dans le Saint Esprit, notre capacité de bonheur sera-t-elle comblée et même dépassée. Par Malachi le Seigneur déplore à quel point les gens trouvent leur Dieu plate, sentent que Lui rendre le culte de louange et obéissance est un fardeau insupportable, et ne Lui offrent que de piteuses offrandes qu'on rougirait d'offrir à une serveuse de resto. Ces gens se montrent incapables de bonheur durable. Les prêtres aussi ne cherchent que leur avantage et se cachent derrière leurs titres, contre quoi Jésus avertit ses disciples. Comme eux nous devons tous nous méfier de notre tendance d'éviter de croître et de faire face aux défis de la vie, mais nous ouvrir à servir humblement comme Jésus. Il nous invite à partager ensemble notre espérance. 111024 Attitudes du Royaume - 1. Avec des yeux mondains nous pouvons obséder sur les comportements et trop remarquer le comportement des autres. Si par crainte ou fierté nous fixons la loi, comme la personne au bord d'une falaise nous augmentons le risque de tomber. Jésus attire notre regard vers Lui pour mieux orienter notre marche de foi à tout moment durant la journée. Avec les saints, contemplons Jésus notre maître et modèle. 111025 Attitudes du Royaume - 2. When all is well, can we know if our loving is true? Like parents tested by their children, we see more clearly the genuineness of our love when we suffer, when it is painful to love, when we are not getting anything back. Then our love is seen to be for the good of others. So the Holy Trinity allow us to experience suffering and call us to bear it with trust and docility. Quand notre amour est récompensé il est difficile de voir l'authenticité de notre amour. Nous sommes tous pris entre la chaire et ses exigences et implusions et l'esprit. Paul mortifia sa chaire, priva ses impulsions et appétits de son attention pour contempler Jésus, le Christ, en qui Il est et tout ce qu'Il a fait et continue de faire, et se laissant guider par le Saint Esprit en lui et au coeur de la communauté de foi. Pourtant pourquoi le mail existe-t-il toujours? Parce que nous sommes comme Jérusalem qui a tourné son dos à Dieu. Jésus n'a pas pour autant démissionné mais cherche toujours à nous enflammer de son amour. Et comment aimer comme Jésus? Voici une petite suggestion..... Caught between the flesh and the spirit, Paul deprived his flesh of attention, refusing to gratify with his attention the demands of his flesh so as to give all his attention to Christ and contemplate Jesus, who He is and all He has done and continues to do, remaining ever docile to the light and guidance of the Holy Spirit within himself and in the community of faith. Jesus seeks to remove the obstacles in us to his love, that we may let Him fill us with the Father's love and join Him in bringing that love into our world. 30e dimanche du Temps Ordinaire - 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time top of page 111019 To face temptation keep your eyes on the road, Jesus. Trying to keep the law pays too much attention to temptation... trying to obey grace, we listen to the Holy Spirit and try to follow Jesus. The atmosphere around the law is full of pride and fear, but the atmosphere around grace is love. Contemplate Jesus and learn to love. 111021 Our impulses and passions cause our flesh to resemble a wild beast, unpredictable and dangerous. Once we have been consciously touched by the Spirit of God, his love kindles a fire within us making us passionate to ponder God's Word, to worship Him and attend the Holy Eucharist on Sunday, to pray, to love our neighbor and pray for our enemies, to love God. This life in the Spirit sets us apart from the world and those who are not in the season of the Spirit but completely taken up with the things, ambitions, fears, and worries of this world. We are growing and each day the Holy Trinity works to make us new. We only appear to repeat some sins, but they are not the same because we are not the same as yesterday. Jesus stimulated people to have faith in God; then God could act in them. This is also the clergy' role. If they could be married in the early Church, now experience shows celibacy to be preferable. martyre de Jean le Baptiste interpelle le Québec Comme Abouna Badeea a partagé avec nos jeunes à la Liturgie de clôture du Camp Extreme hier et à leurs familles à partir de la parabole du semeur, la Parole de Dieu est si vitale que nous aimons l'entendre, mais pour qu'elle porte du fruit nous devons l'accueillir et l'intégrer en nous. Hérode aimait entendre Jean le Baptiste, mais il n'a pas accueilli cette Parole qui venait de Dieu; il a plutôt donné priorité à plaire ses invités, les convives à la fête. Il en va de même pour nous au Québec. L'état de notre Église et de notre société nous provoque une examen de conscience. Nous n'avons pas donné priorité à la Parole de Dieu ni au Seigneur Lui-même et alors nous avons donné au Seigneur mauvaise réputation, nous les prêtres les premiers. Nous sommes en bonne compagnie. Jérémie lui aussi, malgré les assurances de Dieu, se plaint de son sort. Demandons au Seigneur qu'Il renouvelle en nous son Esprit; afin que nous Lui portions davantage témoignage auprès de notre société. We need to let Jesus direct us in all the dimensions of our lives; He has initiated the new times of God's Kingdom, but we insist on approaching God with the old pagan attitudes and ways: as if to a temperamental god whom we feel we have to appease like the terrifying gods to which people offered human sacrifices. The old ways don't work. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to remake our minds and hearts. Let us welcome the Holy Spirit. |

To be immersed in the Spirit, we must turn away from all that blocks our relationship with God and accept Jesus as our Lord. Next week we will pray to be immersed in the Holy Spirit, and the Father will grant this because He loves us. Dieu nous appelle à porter volontiers le fardeau, la croix, de paraître différents des gens qui vivent selon la chaire dans le monde - voilà notre adoration véritable, comme Jésus qui obéit la volonté du Père. How deep is our conviction that God desires our happiness? What is the condition of our relationship with God? Our human experiences of relationship help us understand what is happening between God and us. What was the quality of Ruth's relationship with God? It's changed now... she has left behind the "mortal coil".... She has left behind the mortal habitation in which we came to know and love her. We must all leave the body behind when we die. There is something of a curse in death, the loss of this life, and in the original sin - we come into this world wrinkled, somewhat damaged by our parents and others. Perhaps surprisingly, God calls us to get over it and get on with it, to stop blaming others and take responsibility for ourselves, to see others as better than they are and through our kindness and love even for enemies, to cause a life-giving pressure that pulls them up to become better than they are. Ruth did that for others and lived in this way, and now she has gone to the Lord in Lent, the time of preparation for receiving the Easter joy which is God's gift of hope in the face of sin, suffering, challenges, and death itself, enabling us to walk on with humour and a sense of gratitude for all that has been and blessed us.... We thank God for the gift of Ruth and the way she lived her life and gave it back to God with "value added" as Jesus did himself.... |

The first time we fall in love with God, with Jesus, isn't enough to
carry us for the rest of our lives. Like the people of Israel and like
the Apostles, we become overly preoccupied with our needs, challenges,
troubles, and fears, and we need Jesus to rescue us, as He did the
Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. God's approach to us and how He gives us his own life.... Step 1 - Christ, sent by the Father to rescue us, came among us and died for the ungodly.... Step 2 - Our Lord Jesus Christ brings us peace with God, He comes among us, walks alongside us personally - directly and mysteriously, or simply through another person - and by showing interest in us, letting us know He cares that we exist, that we struggle and suffer, that we live, He gives us peace with God. This is most powerfully and effectively experienced whenever we repent and He forgives us our sins. Step 3 - As we are touched by God and his peace begins to come over us we become willing to trust Him, and this tension of trust - however fragile - between us and God binds us to Him and justifies us. As Jesus said to those whom He healed, "Go in peace, your faith has saved you, has made you well. God and sin no more." We are made right with God, justified, made righteous in this very tension of trusting in God, because in this trust we recognize God to be God and not me, and admit ourselves to be only his creatures, his children, sinners. This tension of trust in the truth of who God is and who we are is our justification. Step 4 - In the very act of being justified by our faith and trust in God, this tension operates the opening of our mind, heart, spirit, and even body to the Holy Spirit, who rushes in. The Father and Jesus are ever eager for us to be filled with the Holy Spirit over and over again, but the Holy Spirit can only come in when we open ourselves in faith and trust, putting us right with God. Step 5 - In the very infilling of the Holy Spirit within us God's love - the Holy Spirit - is poured into our hearts and we know ourselves to be loved by God. Step 6 - This love of God, the Person of the Holy Spirit, stirs up within us the hope of sharing in the glory of God. In spite of our weakness and sinfulness and profound poverty, we realize that God fully intends to share with us all the riches, the glory, of the life and love of the Trinity. Not only that, but... Step 7 - we actually boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. But what is the glory of God? How has God who was once hidden in the heavens become known to us and glorious in our eyes? When the Son of God, hidden in the humanity of Jesus, became visible in his agonizing nakedness on the Cross, He revealed the glorious radiant quality and power of God's intense and jealous love for us. This agonizing dying man found the breath to boldly pray, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." He was praying for the very soldiers executing Him, and the religious leaders who had handed Him over, and the crowd ridiculing Him. To the thief who defended Him from the taunts of the other thief and who pleaded Jesus to remember him, Jesus found the agonized breath to say, "Truly I say to you this very day you will be with me in Paradise." Eternal reward for a moment of compassion towards Jesus..... For us to share in the glory of God is simply to become like Jesus, this incredibly loving man and Son of God. Il nous met en paix avec Dieu en marchant avec nous, nous faisant savoir qu'Il s'intéresse à nous, directement et mystérieusement our pare l'entremise d'une autre personne, et que notre existence Lui tient à coeur. Nous en faisons l'expérience puissamment quand nous nous repentons et Il nous pardonne nos péchés. 3e moment - alors que sa paix nous touche et nous enveloppe, nous devenons davantage enclins à Lui faire confiance. La tension de cette confiance que nous Lui faisons nous lie à Dieu et nous justifie, nous rétablit dans une relation juste et vraie avec Dieu, tout comme les gens que Jésus guérissait et à qui Il disait, "Va en paix, ta foi t'a sauvé. Va et ne pèche plus." 4e moment - ainsi justifiés par notre confiance en Dieu, aussi fragile qu'elle soit, l'Esprit Saint entre en nous et nous est donné. 5e moment - par le fait même c'est l'amour vivant en Dieu, la Personne de l'Esprit Saint, qui est répandu dans nos coeurs. 6e moment - l'amour de Dieu qui est l'Esprit suscite en nous l'espérance d'avoir part à la gloire de Dieu. 7e moment - encore plus, notre orgeuil est justement d'espérer avoir part à la gloire de Dieu. Et la gloire de Dieu, qu'est-ce exactement? Dieu, autrefois caché dans les cieux, nous est révélé en la Personne du Fils de Dieu dévoilée, toute nue et agonisante, mourante sur la Croix. Et tout agonisant et mourant qu'Il était, Jésus a trouvé le souffle de dire - même en pleine agonie - "Père, pardonne-leur, car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font." et encore au larron qui a su lui montrer compassion, "Aujourd'hui même tu seras avec moi au Paradis." Éternelle récompense pour une bref moment de compassion à l'égard de Jésus.... Partager la gloire de Dieu c'est devenir semblable à Jésus, cet homme tellement aimant et Fils de Dieu. |

There is no getting away from law because there are always consequences to everything we think, say, and do - and the law points out as a warning the danger zones - if we transgress these we further put ourselves out of sync with our Creator. The Ten Commandments 1-2-3 4-5-6-7 8-9-10 Still, it isn't enough to just follow the law, our spirit desires much more out of life. Jesus described the fullness of life the Father offers us, and in these words Jesus describes both Himself and all those who accept to become children of God his Father. The Eight Beatitudes 1-2-3 4-5-6-7 *--8--* We need the righteousness of God - we need to allow ourselves to be personally touched by God, to get to know Him, to practice putting our trust in Him, and to let Him work in us through all that He allows us to experience and endure in life. Pierre, de l'Évêque, nous rappelle que Jésus demeure parmi nous, vivant,
nous envoyant son émissaire, pas pour être une forteresse protégée des
troubles du monde, mais au contraire pour être rassemblés par Jésus,
fortifiés et pardonnés, puis renvoyés dans le monde sans crainte pour
être ses témoins. Si nous sommes persécutés et même tués, alors nous
devenons une gloire pour Dieu qui en toute génération est rejeté par
l'humanité qui résiste le plan de Dieu que toutes les bonnes choses de
la création soient accessibles à tous pour le bien-être de tous. Jésus
est venu rappeler à l'humanité ce plan de Dieu surtout à ceux qui sont
portés à accumuler et restreindre pour les autres cet accès aux bonnes
choses faites par Dieu. The Chair of Peter, of the Bishop, reminds us that Jesus dwells among us, living, sending us his emissary, not to make us a fortress safe from the troubles of the world, but on the contrary to be assembled by Jesus, strengthened and forgiven, and then sent out into the world without fear to be his witnesses. If we are persecuted or even killed, then we become a glory for God who in every generation is rejected by humanity which resists God's plan that all good things in creation be available to all for the good of all. Jesus came to remain humanity of this plan of God and especially those inclined to accumulate and restrict others from having access to the good things made by God. 110223 The lives of the saints and other people can help us know God better - without personal experience of God we can only hold onto God blindly by pure faith - but God wants us to know Him personally. It could be a need that we know He has met because no one else could know about it.... Polycarp knew John the Apostle for a few decades... the last living Apostle for a long time... who knew Jesus personally and risen from the dead by faith. We make room in our lives for other people - rare are those who never listen to anyone else - so wisdom helps us make room for God as we do for anyone else, to make room for God to influence my opinions, to change my opinions upon hearing what God has to say, to let God stretch my understanding, to let God affect how I feel about other people, to let God affect how I approach the day, these are good paths for coming to know God more, by giving God time and room in what we hold as precious - to make room for God in our thoughts, to make room in our feelings for God's heart, and it's only after having allowed God to stretch us that we can live what Jesus says in the Gospel and see what God is doing in the world and rejoice when people of other religions or of no religion do wonderful things, for surely God is with them. 110225 Homily One way of stepping back to have a look at how we are living our lives is to go on retreat. A business man, very successful and powerful, was terrified at his first silent retreat, suddenly aware of all his thoughts and feelings, with no place to hide. Only later did he begin to notice the fruits of the retreat, such an unusual grace God had worked in him that he had been uncomfortable. One grace was to have gotten of the merry-go-round and have a good clear look at his life in the light of God's love and in the presence of God. It is unbearable for human beings to see ourselves as we are by ourselves, without the light and warmth of God's love, because of our human condition. The Genesis account of the creation of human beings reads like a fairy tale but it is not, it is very serious. God did not create us as we are now, rather God created us for intimacy, for oneness, transparence, union of hearts, minds, and souls first with God the Trinity and then with each other. Jesus sheds light on our situation. God allowed divorce through Moses because of our hardness of heart, we were unmanageable. What blunt advice the Lord gives us through Sirach on friendship: be wary, don't trust too quickly, test people, don't conclude too quickly that someone is your friend..... Because of the human condition there are obstacles in us to transparence, bliss, union of minds, hearts and souls. In marriage the friendship of a man and woman becomes a new existence, the couple, which lives and grows as each of the spouses accept to put to death their previous existence as individuals... a pastor must accept to die to his former life as an individual in order to live a new life with the parish community. It is like that in any relationship - in order to really listen to you I must die to all my fears and concerns about what to say next and make room for you. It is good to hear this Word of God shortly before the Season of Lent, the season of repentance from preoccupation with ourselves so as to be washed and clothed anew with the life the Father desires for us. - Intro bil to Our Father / au Notre Père |

Migrant et du Réfugié CWL Testimony by Rosa Homily 110116 0900 1230 Homily and Testimony by Lydia God wants to make us a light to the nations. Our response to God is to wait patiently for the Lord, accepting to endure all that comes our way with confidence the Lord will act for our good at the moment He chooses and through our confidence in Him will bring people to Himself. Those who live entirely in the world and by its standards sooner or later find themselves dominated by worldly passions such as greed for gain, fear of loss, need to accumulate and to protect oneself from the demands and needs of others. There is no true peace in the world. As we try to live in God's reign, in his love, trying to put in Him our trust, we come to know what God is truly life and to recognize his ways of doing things - very different from the world's ways - and his peace dissipates our fears. Like little children, youth, and young adults who progressively learn to better know and sincerely love their parents with gratitude for who they are despite their human flaws; so through the practice of confidence in God we come to progressively know God better and love Him more truly. God's remedy for our fears around time - regrets regarding time past, fear of future time, anxiety over present time (going too fast, not enough time) - is that we keep holy the Lord's Day: participating in Sunday worship each week and accepting the Day of Rest as a gift from God and putting aside all work and worry for the whole day. God's remedy for our fears around the impossible demands and frightening needs of others is that we share our talents and try to serve one another and especially those who are poor or unable to help themselves adequately. In doing these things, with confidence in God, we come into the wonderful experience of the freedom of God's children as He blesses our slightest efforts to live as good stewards of his gifts of time and talent, and in this freedom that the world cannot understand God gives us his peace which the world cannot give and imbues in us his joy which the world does not know, a joy that like his peace abides in us even under trial, when in pain and suffering, as in Jesus agonizing on the cross, yet still connected to his Father as He did his Father's will to the end. | Deacon Brian Cordeiro reflected on our discipleship as we follow Jesus as a call to be confident in God's love, to live our lives doing good, and to let God accomplish his purpose in us by surrendering our will to his, putting our trust in Him in all things, as Jesus did in his life on Earth. Each day we need to begin by repenting, confessing to Him our sins, our disruption within and around us of the order and harmony He gives to his Creation.... In return, our trust, repentance, and openness clear our eyes, ears, and heart to notice, to recognize his visitation in all the moments of our lives, even illness, pains, suffering, and humiliation.... because in those fragile, vulnerable times of our lives our resistance is down and He is able to give us the incredible spiritual gifts He has been longing to give us, but to which we had until then been closed. Our willingness to trust in his love and that He knows what He is doing opens the way to his continuous coming into our lives and into our world. Vigilance... Espérance... Le Seigneur nous appelle à continuer de lui faire confiance plutôt que de compter sur nous-mêmes. | Picking up
from Fr Badeea last week, God calls us to avoid insulating ourselves
from others and their needs and instead connect with them and with Him
by simply putting our faith in Him and opening our doors to experience
his power and love, which motivate us to discipline ourselves to avoid
isolation. 101002 1700
- As Fr Badeea said last week, eternal life has begun and whether we
insulate ourselves from others or connect with them, this is the life
which will continue into eternity. The Apostles asked Jesus to increase
their faith but Jesus tells us that faith already has all it needs just
like a seed, and it develops with use as we choose moment by moment to
put our faith in God. The fruit then is that we come to love God and
trust Him and experience his power, which is love, and we want to
discipline ourselves to follow Him and live as children of God. Examples
are our willingness to share in the troubles of others - which in the
eyes of the world is not reasonable - and our willingness to put our
faith in Jesus' Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist. After all, the
Father created the universe out of nothing through the Word, the Son,
and as a man the Son changed 120 gallons of water into exquisite wine.
He changes bread and wine into his RISEN BODY AND BLOOD which is
transfigured and transformed into something supernatural. In giving us
himself in Holy Communion, Jesus transfuses us with divine life and
gives us himself to eat as a mother gives herself to her baby nursing at

| The Lord calls us not so much to follow our heart as to guide our heart. Week 4 wraps up our 4-week series of reflections
on Jesus' call to follow Him and our ongoing response to Him and our
development as
Disciples of Jesus and Stewards
of Creation.
100130 1700 - - - 100131 0900 - - - et en français: 100131 1045 - - - 100131 1230 The intimate friendship with God and with each other lost by Adam and Eve caused the divine love in them to be replaced by fears.... The Father sent us Jesus to free us from fear but we are daunted by his perfect love, intimidated when we compare ourselves with others, and still fearful when facing opposition, indifference, persecution. These past three weeks we have been reflecting on how to make more room for Jesus in our lives, how to let gratitude to God motivate our living, prayer, and putting our time and talent at the service of others. A response to the 3rd week would be to examine how close to the biblical ideal of 10% my / our total giving to God, charities, and people in need comes, and see what steps I / we can freely take to be more generous and practice putting more trust in divine providence for everything. This week, we reflect: Do I admire Jesus enough, do I trust Him enough to follow Him? I can't be willing to follow Him wherever He will lead me unless I can know within me that He loves me, cares about me. Like Jeremiah, I may feel inadequate to follow Him, but like the Psalmist I can remember that God is ever present, and for me to pray is simply to wake up and remember the God who is present, and visit with Him, with the Father, with Jesus his Son, with the Holy Spirit. It's good that I do good things and participate in life and in my family, but it's even better when I do all those things with the inspiration and power of the love of God within me. As Mary said at Cana to the attendants, so she says to us: "Do whatever He tells you." |

| The Baptism of the Lord ends the Christmas Season, but at all the Masses January 30-31 we will observe the Presentation of the Lord (February 2nd), gather with our children around the Manger and give thanks to the Father for sending his divine Light into the world in Jesus. This week we witness a convergence of three wondrous gifts the Lord offers us: the Magi who with incredible generosity and gratitude spared no effort, expense, and trouble to find the Son of God; Jesus, who in magnificent freedom stands in the water of the Jordan before his cousin John, ready to face anything; and a reluctant Jesus at Cana who causes untold joy to erupt as He grants his Mother Mary's request and transforms 180 gallons of water into an incredible heavenly wine, a glimpse of the gift of his own precious Blood He will one day pour out so we might live. As we continue to enjoy these 40 days in the radiance of Christmas and Epiphany, our Parish Pastoral Team invites us to enter into our 3rd annual 4-week reflection series on "Disciples of Jesus and Stewards of Creation". Today our theme is discipleship. Jesus has come to comfort God's People and the Psalmist invites us to proclaim to everyone the wonders God does for his People. Jesus beckons us to follow Him and live a life of discipline focused on doing good and to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit within us to tell others about the Father's love. | Le Baptême du Seigneur termine la Saison de Noël, mais à toutes les Messes les 30-31 janvier nous observerons la Présentation du Seigneur (2 février) en rassemblant autour de la Crèche nos enfants pour rendre grâce à notre Père d'avoir envoyé dans le monde sa Lumière divine en Jésus. shocked when the Temple of God was violated. Why did God allow this?
Joseph was shocked when he noticed that Mary was visibly pregnant,
though they had not come together. Why did Mary allow this to happen? We
too ask these questions of God. In Advent the Lord tells us that the
story is not complete, that He is leading us into the experience of his
salvation, providing we put our trust in Him and allow Him to lead us
through the events of life. Israël fut écrasé quand le Temple de Dieu fut violé. Pourquoi Dieu l'a-t-Il permis? Joseph fut confus quand il observa que Marie était visiblement enceinte, sans qu'ils se soient unis. Pourquoi Marie l'a-t-elle permis? Nous questionnons aussi le Bon Dieu. Durant l'Avent le Seigneur tous rappelle que l'histoire n'est pas encore terminée et qu'Il nous mène vers l'expérience de son salut, pourvu que nous Lui fassions confiance et Le permettons de nous conduire à travers les événements de la vie. |

étrangers, pensant que Dieu était impuissant. Ils ont appris que Dieu

Comme les Juifs nous devons apprendre que Dieu agit, mais pas encore de

fassions confiance, et mettions notre foi en Lui. English Israel's greatest suffering was to see the Temple of God violated by strangers, as though God was powerless to act. They learned that God is the only true god and God of the universe. The greatest suffering for a Christian is to see a Christian or any human being violated. Like the Jews we must learn that God acts, but not yet with such glory as to leave no doubts. He wants us to trust in Him and to put our faith in Him. |

| 091122 1230 Christ the King - Our liturgical year ends this week and begins anew with Advent. In the 3 lectionary years - ABC - we are shown Jesus returning in glory at the end of time on clouds to gather before Him every human being that has ever lived for the judgement as a prelude to eternal life. Last year (A) we say Jesus as the Good Shepherd, who looks after his sheep and at the end of time will judge us as a shepherd separates sheep from goats "I was hungry and you gave me to eat.... etc." Next year (C) we'll see Jesus descended from King David and crucified on a cross, where He was attentive to the "good thief" who felt sorry for Him and asked to be remembered in his Kingdom. Today we see Jesus standing face to face with Pilate and taking interest in him enough to chat with him. This year, many loved ones and parishioners have had this experience because they died and are now with God. What will it be like to find ourselves face to face with Jesus, as happens for every single human being at the moment of death, whether they know Jesus or believe in Him or not? (Fr Gilles shares three stories of people he has known that give us glimpses of what it is like to face Jesus.... Maryann.... Steve.... Pete the musician....) Today Jesus shows us He is a King interested in every single person and gives each one a chance to open up to Him. He gave Judas a chance for 3 years, but he didn't, refused to make room for Jesus and his way of doing things. | 091120 We celebrate our annual St Luke Feast Day by hosting a "Ministering to Ministers Day of Recollection" on the nearest Saturday to October 18th for the ongoing faith formation of all who serve through involvement and volunteerism. In addition, now we will also have the annual anniversary of the Consecration of our Church and Altar. Given our church architecture and call to follow Jesus, we must combine two important functions of a lively community of faith in the one space we have: (1) extending lively hospitality and greeting one another with mutual love, and (2) coming prayerfully into the Real Presence of Jesus, ever waiting for us in the Tabernacle. So, in order to pray amid the happy sounds of greeting, the cooing or complaining of infants, and delightful chatter of youth, we do as Mother Teresa taught her novices and learn to "make silence within us"; otherwise insisting on silence around us will do us no lasting good. To make silence within, we must humbly acknowledge to the Lord all the noise we carry in our minds, hearts, and spirits, and humbly beg Him to bring his holy silence within us through the power of the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life! Jésus répond aux questions de ses disciples en leur rappelant la fin des temps et son retour dans la gloire, mais quand il leur dit qu'ils verront de leur vivant se réaliser ses paroles, Il veut dire que pour chaque personne la fin du monde coincide avec leur mort et départ de cette Terre. Le don que Jésus a fait de sa vie pour que nos péchés soient pardonnés devient efficace pour nous quand nous réalisons ce qu'Il a fait et nous laissons toucher personnellement. In answer to his disciples' questions Jesus evoked the end of time and of the world when He will return in glory. He told them they would see these things in their lifetime, but we are still here. Jesus means that the world in effect ends for us when we leave it and die. Jesus offered his life so we might be forgiven, and this becomes really effective for us when we are touched personally or become embarrassed by the graciousness with which Jesus endured our sins imposed on Him. Only then do we begin to really change. On Calvary those who refused to be embarrassed rejected the truth and love of God revealed in Jesus and left. Those who let themselves be touched remained and stood in awe of Jesus. As we let Jesus touch our lives, we become instruments He is then free to use to touch others. | 091011 1230 As I asked the children earlier, we can forget to say thank you, and go through periods like that. I did, and it's a miserable time. So what Good News is the Lord offering us today? Wisdom shines on us with attractive beauty, a radiance of the fullness that is in God, radiating in the beauty, harmony, and logic of Creation, God shining all over the place. The rich young man sees this beauty and goodness shining on Jesus and sees the Apostles have it and he wants it. The problem is that from infancy he has been used to owning things and he thinks this is just one more thing he can have. Jesus sees the good desire he has and loves him and welcomes him to join them. What Jesus is bringing is so big that he must leave everything else behind like Peter and the others did to make room for it. The young man is shocked, and the Gospel doesn't say whether he got over it or not, because the Lord wants us to see ourselves as that young man. All of us, women and men, can ask "How am I going to respond to Jesus?" All kinds of things can get us stuck and prevent us from welcoming the fullness of life Jesus offers us. Jesus also said we need the heart of a child to enter the Kingdom of God: the child knows it is poor and totally dependent on Mom and Dad and trusts them completely, taking delight in that bond of dependence and trust. Those are the qualities we need to enter the Kingdom of God. Children have it but what happens to them? We have to grow up, get a life, acquire learning, skills, and a trade or profession so we can put our hands on the world and work and contribute to it. Claude Ryan, a devout Catholic Christian and fine politician, often said one of the most neglected yet noble Catholic Christian vocations is to politics, to political office. It's an incredible act of courage and generosity to put our hands, heart, and mind on society to serve others. We are called to do that, to take our place in the world, but as we do we can become so learned, competent, insightful in understanding what's going on in the world that we can rely excessively on our own views and shut out others and even God. We lose the child's willingness to trust and Jesus speaks to that today. Peter says he and the others did leave everything behind to follow Jesus and he is right. They did and Jesus says they are already enjoying their reward by living in the Kingdom. Around 1200 A.D. 1 out of 4 people in Europe were in monasteries of men or women or were priests, and 1/4 to 1/3 of the geography of Europe belonged to religious orders and dioceses in the Church. Like Francis of Assisi and Dominic, people wanted to follow Jesus and found this to be a great way to do it, and they got closer to God. American mother and professional Kathleen Chesto said young parents leave everything behind to start a family: going into debt, getting a family vehicle instead of the sporty one, becoming servants to their children for 20 to 30 years. We can still get stuck, so full of what we're doing or preoccupied that we are no longer receptive. Jesus offers us today an opportunity to step back and ask "Am I enjoying the freedom of the children of God, aware of my poverty and dependence and delighted to put all my trust in God, or am I stuck?" Am I stuck in my misery or pain or worries? We can prefer our habits, things... if there is anyone in Hell it's by choice... we can prefer to cling to what is familiar, even misery, rather than accept to let the light of God shine on us. We can run away by being with people, afraid to look inside and find there's nothing there. It's not true. Jesus offers us the joy to know that God dwells with us inside and we have nothing to fear. It doesn't matter to Jesus that we are broken, poor, or fragile, or in pain or grieving, whatever we're going through. Jesus is delighted to dwell with us with his Father and the Holy Spirit, and they make us incredibly rich. Jesus calls us to have companions on our journey. It is good and necessary for us to grow, learn, acquire competence and skill, so we can put our hands on the world and work with God to cultivate the world and make it better, but as we become full of ideas and experience we can get stuck and rely too much on ourselves and our opinions, forget our poverty and dependence, and leave no room for others or for God, losing our innocence and going on our own, outside the Kingdom of God. | 091004 1045 Nous pouvons perdre les pédales à la réponse de Jésus concernant le divorce en raison de nos trop nombreuses et tristes expériences reliées au divorce. Sont aussi reliées nos expériences de prêtres qui ont quitté le sacerdoce, cette petite mais terrible minorité de prêtres qui ont abusé les innocents et les plus vulnérables, le débat sur le célibat pour les prêtres, et le choc de la fréquence de l'abus caché des épouses et des enfants aux mains de ceux qui sont sensés les aimer et en prendre soin. Le plan de Dieu avant même la création d'Adam et Eve était pour notre bonheur. Les premiers humains jouissaient d'une familiarité avec et d'un pouvoir sur les créatures que nous n'avons pas entièrement perdus. Cette fin de semaine nous avons demandé à Dieu de bénir vos animaux familiers et vous aussi. Nous voyons en Adam et Eve une merveilleuse égalité de dignité et une belle complémentarité. Jésus définit le divorce non pas comme un sexe malpropre mais comme une offense contre l'époux ou l'épouse, leur ravissant quelquechose pour le donner à une tierce personne. Dieu nous appelle à aimer notre époux/se pour toujours avec un amour exclusif, et Il appelle les prêtres à aimer l'Épouse du Christ, l'Église, pour toujours avec un amour exclusif comme celui de Jésus, l'Époux. Dieu notre Père nous a faits par la Parole Divine son Fils dans l'Esprit Saint. Il sait qu'un seul amour suffit à dilater notre coeur à l'infini, pourvu que nous suivons sa gouverne. Jésus nous donne la clef pour ouvrir, comprendre, et emprunter le sentier que Lui-même nous a ouvert en l'empruntant le premier pour nous précéder. "Laissez les enfants venir à moi.... Celui qui n'accueille pas le Royaume de Dieu à la manière d'un enfant n'y entrera pas." Qu'y a-t-il chez le petit enfant qui puisse avoir un tel pouvoir d'une clef pour nous ouvrir le Royaume de Dieu? La pauvreté... conscience de son entière dépendance; confiance... la volonté de se confier entièrement à Maman, Papa, Dieu; l'innocence... incapable de faire le mal; joie... tout à fait ouvert pour observer, recevoir, et jouir de la vie, des autres, de Dieu. Cela commence à environs 8 mois, une naissance psychologique, alors que l'enfant devient capable et veut bien choisir une personne comme préférée pour lui prodiguer les soins et "tombe en amour avec" Maman, Papa, même la gardienne, ou la personne qui s'en occupe de façon fiable, régulière, et avec chaleur et gentillesse. Imaginez le mal que peut subir l'enfant quand ce premier lien d'amour est empêché, interrompu, ou endommagé... simplement par une absence par maladie ou hospitalisation, par un changement par le divorce, la mort, ou même la garderie, or par un traumatisme par accident, violence, ou la guerre. Voilà en quoi consiste et comment est transmis le péché originel à partir du moment de la conception nous avons tous été frippés, endommagés, blessés par le mal et les limites de la bonté tout autour de nous, et par les péchés des autres. Nous avons tous été introduits dans une vie d'amour imparfaite, à l'exception de Marie, qui par la grâce de l'Immaculée Conception fut préservée dans un état d'amour parfait par Dieu en anticipant qu'elle accepterait de concevoir et d'enfanter son Fils Divin comme l'humain qu'elle devrait appeler Jésus. Alors, comment Dieu fait-Il pour nous sauver? On nous le rappelle aujourd'hui que c'est par la souffrance. Étant donné la condition du monde, et le don que Dieu nous faits toujours de la liberté, il ne peut pas y avoir de solution magique au mal dans le monde; car à tout moment partout dans le monde nous choisissons de négliger le bien et de faire le mal. Dieu a choisi d'honorer son don de notre liberté et de nous sauver plutôt par la transformation par notre lutte et notre souffrance afin de parfaire notre apprentissage à l'amour et restaurer notre participation à l'oeuvre de Dieu de la Création en nous occupant du jardin et en cultivant les personnes et les relations. | 091003 1700 We can freak out at Jesus' answer to the question about divorce because of our many sad experiences. Also related are priests leaving the ministry, the small but terrible minority of priests who abuse the innocent and vulnerable, the debate over celibacy for priests, and the shockingly frequent but hidden abuse of spouses and children by those responsible to love and care for them. God's plan from even before the creation of Adam and Eve was for our happiness. The first humans enjoyed a familiarity with and power over the creatures, which we haven't completely lost. Today we asked God to bless all your pets and you. We see in Adam and Eve our equal dignity and complementarity. Jesus defines adultery not as dirty sex but an offense against one's spouse, taking something away from them to give it to a third party. God calls us to love our spouse forever with an exclusive love, and He calls priests to love the Bride of Christ, the Church, forever with an exclusive love like that of Jesus the Bridegroom. God the Father made us through the Divine Word his Son in the Holy Spirit. He knows that one love is enough to fill and expand our heart infinitely, providing we follow his guidance. Jesus gives us the key to open, understand, and follow the path He opened for us by walking in it first ahead of us. "Let the little children come to me.... whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." What is it about a little child that is such a powerful key to let us enter the Kingdom of God? Poverty... awareness of complete dependence; trust... willingness to fully and completely trust in Mom, Dad, God; innocence... incapable of doing harm; joy... completely open to notice, receive, and enjoy life, love, others, and God. It all begins around 8 months of age, the psychological birth, when the infant becomes capable and willing to choose one person as the preferred care giver, and "falls in love" with Mommy, or Daddy, or the Nanny, or whoever is seen as steady, warm, kind, and reliable. Imagine the harm that happens when this first love affair is hindered, interrupted, or damaged... simply by an absence by illness or hospitalization of the care giver, by a change through divorce, death, or even day care, or by a trauma through accident, violence, or war. This is what the original sin is, that each of us from the moment of our conception have been wrinkled, damaged, wounded by the evils and limitations of goodness all around us, and by the sins of others. All of us have entered into a life of love that is not perfect, except Mary, who through the grace of Immaculate Conception was preserved in a perfect state of love by God in anticipation that she would accept to conceive and bear his Divine Son as the human whom she was to name Jesus. So then, how exactly does God save the rest of us? We are reminded today that it is by suffering. Given the condition of the world, and God's gift of freedom to us, there can be no magic solution to the problem of evil in the world, because we are constantly, all over the world, choosing to neglect good and do evil. God has chosen to honor his gift of our freedom and instead to save us by transformation through struggle and suffering and in this way complete our apprenticeship to love and our restore our responsible participation in God's work of Creation in tending the garden and cultivating people and relationships. The power of God is being channelled through the suffering Jesus accepted to share from us in an act of perfect love for us; so it is Jesus' suffering which forgives and reconciles us and heals us, and our own suffering becomes the price we must pay for ongoing love in a broken world. | |||||||

In our condition of mortal sin we are inclined to separate from God and get caught in traps of darkness. Our Angel is ever helping us to get up, turn from the darkness, and step toward God. Mostly to carry our cross and follow Jesus means to accept to live life fully - not picking and choosing - all of it, the good and the bad, joy and sorrow, success and failure, vigor and weakness, pleasure and pain. Then Jesus reveals the Father to us and the Holy Spirit dwells in us and lifts us up, and our prayers are answered. The Father saved Jesus when He prayed, not from dying but from failure inside himself, giving Him strength to remain true to Himself to the end, when He not only forgave and asked the Father to forgive those who tortured Him, but even excused them: "for they know not what they do." Even that is possible when we are in God. We have two choices in life: to stay home on little thrones putting ourselves above others with thoughts and opinions about everything and everyone else, or we can give that up and come to Church every Sunday to worship the Lord as God; then I don't have to carry the world on my shoulders and be a god because I worship Jesus as my Lord and He sets me free to be loved and to love as He does. | 090913 12:30 We tend not to be ambitious to give our lives for our faith, but tens of thousands all over the world do, and when the time comes God gives them a grace of enthusiasm to carry them through it. Still, we cannot be disciples, Christians, without carrying our cross behind Jesus. First we come to Jesus, and as we try to know Him and ponder his words, He reveals the Father to us, and in time the love between them, the Holy Spirit dwells in us and fills us, and we become less focused on ourselves and more sensitive to others around us, more awake to what is happening all around us. I have two choices every day, every week. I can stay home with my thoughts and opinions about everything and everyone else like on a throne and push God out of the way, or when I catch myself doing that, I can get off my little throne and every Sunday come to Church with other Christians and worship the Lord as the true God and as my Lord, and let Him carry the burden of the world on his shoulders, as He did on the cross. Then I can put his mind and will above mine, which is a struggle, which is why Jesus suffered, putting these things to death in himself so we, I could put them to death in myself and be free to live life fully. This is what the Christian life is about: accepting to walk with Jesus and do as He did. The abundance of life the Father offers us puts Him in his Son Jesus at the center of our lives, and the Holy Spirit attracts us to Church. When I was little, the Holy Spirit used my parents to push/pull me to Church, until I could decide freely on my own to come worship the Lord and put Him first in my life, and then be free to welcome the abundance of life the Father offers us, and be open to all of life, not just all the good stuff, but even the difficult stuff.
